Cutting Edge Reproductive Technologies Give You the Advantage
Our goal at Pacific Reproductive Center is to provide excellent, personalized care with optimum results. We treat each patient as an individual. Each patient receives the treatment advice that is right for their specific case. Our physicians use their expertise in diagnosing fertility problems and provide patients with individual solutions.
The infertility treatment process:
- Consultation
- Testing
- Evaluation
- Initial Treatment
- ART (Assisted Reproductive Technologies)
Consultation: During the first doctor visit you and your partner will have a chance to ask questions and talk to your doctor about the infertility treatment process to better understand the problems that may be causing infertility and the available treatments to increase your chances of becoming pregnant. Sometimes the fertility problem is caused by male factors; therefore it is recommended that you are both present at the consultation visit.
Exploring the following subjects help the physician to assess your personal history:
- How long you have been trying to conceive
- The frequency of your intimacy
- Your habits: smoking, drinking, etc…
- Your level of physical activity
- Your diet
- Your weight – whether you have gained or lost weight recently
- Types of medications taken regularly (including over-the-counter medicines, supplements and herbs)
- Woman’s periods regularity/irregularity
- Any abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain or pelvic infections
- Previous pregnancies or miscarriages
- Mother’s age of menopause
- Previous surgeries
- History of sexually transmitted infections
- Methods of birth control
- Any existing health problems
- Your job type
- Your exposure to chemicals you use at home
- Your ethnic background (to see if there is any possibility of the genetic diseases)
The physician then decides on the types of tests needed to further evaluate your treatment. There may be some blood tests for the woman at certain point in the menstrual cycle. Our Clinical consultant reviews test options with you and informs you of the steps involved, including any of the following:
- Blood count (CBC)
- Blood test for Rh factor
- Hormonal assessment through blood work and ultrasounds
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG), an x-ray that detects blockages or malformations in the fallopian tubes.
- Endometrial biopsy, to detect any inflammation within the uterine cavity
- Surgical evaluation and treatment (hysteroscopy and laparoscopy) allowing the physician to diagnose and correct problems in the uterus and pelvic cavity
- Cycle monitoring – involving hormone testing through blood work and ultrasounds
Testing on male partner: The man is requested to complete a medical history. Some questions to expect:
- Any prior genital injuries or surgeries
- Any urinary tract or prostate infection
- Any sexually transmitted diseases
- If he has fathered children in the past
- Any problems with ejaculation
- Any health problems
Upon the evaluation of the completed male history, a semen analysis may be performed to check a man’s fertility (this test may be performed more than once). A semen sample is sent to a lab to be checked for:
- Count and morphology (number and shape of sperm)
- Motility (how well the sperms move)
- Any signs of infection
Upon the findings of the semen analysis, the man may be referred to an andrologist if the test shows problems. The andrologist will then treat male infertility.
Evaluation: Following a comprehensive testing, the physician evaluates the findings and develops a customized treatment plan considering your age and diagnosis. Treatment options many include the following:
- Treatment of Auto-Immune Factors
- Surgical Treatment
- IUI (Intrauterine inseminations)
- Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
- Ovulation induction through fertility medications
- Embryo Cryopreservation (embryo freezing)
- Evaluation and treatment of recurrent pregnancy loss
- Donor Insemination
- Surgical treatment – hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, myomectomy, Pelviscopic laser surgery and removal of endometriosis
- Tubal Microsurgery – including reversal of tubal ligation
- Gestation Surrogacy
- Psychological Counseling
Rest assured that we will make every effort to help you understand the procedures and support you throughout the process. Our goal is to apply tested treatment options that bring results by providing you with the most updated, cutting edge technologies of ART (Assisted Reproductive Technologies).
