3 Biggest Cases Where Intrauterine Insemination Is Effective

fertility treatment

Intrauterine insemination (IUI), also known as artificial insemination, is a common fertility treatment where ‘washed’ sperm are placed directly in a woman’s uterus, through a catheter, around the time of a woman’s cycle when the mature egg is ovulating. An IUI can be performed with a woman’s natural cycle, with oral fertility medications, or with injectable ovulatory stimulating medications.

Donor Sperm

Women using donor sperm need intrauterine insemination to transfer the sperm into their uterus.

Male Factor Infertility

In cases where men have low sperm count or motility issues, washing and concentrating sperm and then placing it directly into the uterus can prove an effective male fertility treatment procedure in LA. But it is not successful in severe cases of male infertility.

Unexplained Infertility

Intrauterine Insemination is often the first treatment for unexplained infertility, along with ovulation inducing medications. IUI overcomes many issues related to male infertility such as sperm number and motility. In addition, placing the sperm directly into the uterus makes the trip to the fallopian tubes much shorter and increases the chance that more sperm will make their way closer to the egg.

Pregnancy rates with IUI are more successful for younger women. Intrauterine insemination is very successful for women who do not ovulate regularly, such as those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Along with ovulation stimulation, the natural pregnancy rate per cyclemay be restored.
